Advanced Materials and Processes (GS AMP)

GS AMP Requirements

During your membership in the GS AMP you should achieve the following requirements to obtain a certificate:

General requirements (each point has to be completed)

  • Publish at least one article related to the dissertation in an ISI Web of Knowledge-indexed journal
  • Attend Graduate School activities on a regular basis (winter and summer schools, key qualification courses, etc.)
  • Attend at least one lecture per year in addition to the cluster seminars (with confirmation of participation)

Requirements skills development (at least two different activities have to be completed in each field)

Scientific Skills

  • Extended research stay abroad (min. 1 month)
  • Actively attend an international conference (poster or talk)
  • Handle a third party / industry funded project
  • Draft a proposal for a third party / industry funded project
  • Internship with an industry partner

Leadership Qualities

  • (Co-)Organization of a workshop, symposium (e.g. Young Researchers' Day), or one-semester colloquium
  • Active participation in an EAM science fair presence
  • Active participation in teaching: hold a lecture exercise or a lab course, or take over the ‘technical mentoring’ of master students
  • Participation in a key qualification course e.g. presentation techniques, scientific writing, proposal writing, proposals for safeguarding good scientific practice, scientometry, basics in business and economy, intellectual property rights, project management, time and self management etc.

GS AMP will cover costs for these courses.

Social Skills

  • Social mentoring of (younger) fellow doctoral researchers, in particular from abroad (‘buddying’)
  • Support for guest scientists from abroad
  • Role in a students’ board, university commission, as students’ advisor, etc.
  • Organization of a social event
  • Participation in a key qualification course (e.g. on Team work)
  • Intercultural preparation of research stays abroad
  • English conversation
  • For foreigners: German language course (e.g. the German class offered by EAM )
